Welcome to the Pierre, SD Real Estate blog. Also known as "Pierreadise" referring to the little paradise we have here in Pierre. I met my husband who is originally from Pierre out East while he was in school. I have to tell the story that before we got engaged, he proposed Pierre as the place he wanted to live and raise children, build a career, ect. I told him I could make the grass green wherever I lived and we set our sights on moving here. It wasn't long before I realized we live in Pierre-idise.
We really struggled to find a home that we loved. Looking for a home became a full time job on my end. I spent every day on the websites looking for any new properties. I was surprised that the community didn't use Craigslist and many homes sold before they even hit the market. At the time we were living eight hours away, both working full-time jobs and I was expecting baby number two. All mothers know, when you have a little one on the way, you don't want to rent just to move again in a couple months once you get there. You want to feel settled in your new home.
Pierre is a close knit Community and that is why its helpful to have someone here to help you find a home. Pierre also has higher home prices than what I was use to which came to me as a shock. A home that was $50,000 back in New York would sell for $200,000 in South Dakota.
The other hurdle we found was a bank that was excited to help us. That wanted our business and was dedicated to helping us and following up. I literally wrote down every single banks name, called every single Mortgage Loan Officer and decided who I wanted to work with by eliminating them one by one.
I spent my first couple years raising our children, we have a now four and two year old. In the last couple years I've worked hard to meet new people and discover the different activities and groups of people we are excited to be connected with.
